Att Comcast folks
I dont know how many of you received it in the last few days, or know about it, but Comcast is increasing its broadband speed from 3mg down 286 up to 4 mg down and 360+up. Which is cool, but something I didnt know about and thought Id mention. They offer a $10 speed add on package, and with these speed updates, that package will take it on up to 6 mg down 768 up. 10 bucks for an additional 2 mg down and doublin my upload? Helll yeah, sign me up.
|
The only problem here is that you never actually achieve 3 meg down(at least, I don't), so what are the odds you'll pull 5? The upload would be nice though.
|
Thats the big reason I did it was for the upload. A couple speed tests since signing up has shown over 5 mgbit everytime, and upload hasnt been under 700 yet.

this is what i just ran on dslreports a few secs a go.
2005-01-31 16:01:00 EST: 3938 / 325 Your download speed : 4032685 bps, or 3938 kbps. A 492.2 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 333414 bps, or 325 kbps. A lot better than i was getting last month. Thanks for the update/tip |
You can achieve 5mbs probably, but what servers out there do you know of that can send you 5mb across the whole wire?
After being routed halfway around the country, multi-peering, and whatnot, your speeds decrease. If you're playing games, I don't see your ping decreasing any because of a little more upload. |
I just experienced this first hand through Bittorrent: Consistent down speed of about 480 kb/sec on my Comcast connection. Damn.
|
I didnt do it for a lower ping bendsley. I run a couple different small servers at different times, (some game servers some not games) and the extra speed comes in handy, especially the upload.
