Video Card issue
I just installed an ATI 9600xt card. Nice and fast, but I can't get the refresh rate to go above 60hz and it's killing my eyes! I can go in and adjust the refresh rate to anything I want, but it still defaults back to 60hz. It's not my monitor other cards (non-ATI) work fine. Anyone ever heard of this issue??

To get the simple stuff out of the way,
Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from ATI? Have you read the manual that came with your card to check for any known issues? Have you checked the maker of the cards webiste for any firmware updates for the GPU? (If the card was made by someone other than ATI with an ATI chipset) |
Also, check to see if there are any specific drivers for your monitor.

make sure you set the little monitor version to the right one and not default...I think their is also a way to set refresh rate "outside" of what is possible for the monitor...might want to try that...(as in set it to your old refresh rate and see if it still works..
I'm sorry if this makes no sense...not completely sober...and possibly slightly baked... |

go to display properties -> advanced -> tab 'Displays' -> click on the first 'Monitor' button -> uncheck 'Use DCC information' -> set the maximum resolution and refresh rate (set it to something high, say 100Hz or higher if your monitor supports it)
That did it for my PC and I had the exact same problem with my ATI 9500. BTW Phage, any recent monitor shouldn't be damaged by setting the refresh too high, it will simply go in standby mode |
Well I fixed it. I first d/led the lasted drivers for ATI, those gave me problems. I loaded the drivers that came on the CD with my card and they worked fine. Guess the lastest drivers or the CATALYST control center did not like my card..
