The RATS NEST

So I come into work today...and I see...sitting on the workbench...this...THING. None of us would touch the thing. Apparenlty the person wanted the computer to work WITHOUT messing with any power cables or the power supply. Here are some pics of the Rats Nest

OK question 1: Why does it look rusted???

question 2: why did they bother with the shrink tubing on some of the cables?

Did they bring it in because the processor burned out? Looks like you are replacing it.

Question 1: No idea

Question 2: *shrug*

They brought it in because, I quote "it doesn't work, please fix it without messing with the power supply because my cables are set up in a special way". We open it up and the Processor isn't even attached to the motherboard! Here is a front shot. Check out the On/Off writing on the front

The CD Drive on the bottom was screwed down in with some extra metal. The dude cut out metal for the thing to fit!

Future Power NewQ Gold Graphic Equalizers

EQUALIZERS FOR COMPUTERS: For those not satisfied with the equalizers built into their SB Live! or Vortex2 cards, Future Power has produced a line of equalizers that fit into the 5 1/4" slot in a computer chassis. This box, about the size of a standard CD player, gets mounted just like a CD drive and then is connected to your existing audio card.
The duct tape on the front of the 5.25" floppy is a nice touch as well.

Duct tape is cool, but it ain't gonna fix this thing. I wish that purple thing would have been some kind of fan controller. That would have been hilarious!

that makes the baby jesus weep!

wow, i have seen some pos boxen before, but i want to say that that takes the cake. whomever works on that should kame sure to stand on a rubber mat, the powersupply can not possibly be safe.
seriously, just reccomend that they salvage their components and put the whole thing in a new case w/ a non-altered powersupply. good luck.

Can't be the worst, it is somehow free of dust bunnies. I've seen better looking cases that are completely full of dust and cat hair, thats been discolored by all the cigarrete smoke that has been sucked in by fans. Disgusting.

I agree that it's a joke. Some of the things in there would only be preplanned. While other things look like it's someone who is computer saving having a fun time.

If I was them I would of upped the ball and put a 8bit ISA card into the agp slot.

God I would hope he has some sort of problem, either it would have to be a joke.

Rat's nest = big mess of wires resembling a rat's nest. Its a term that us nerds like to use to explain the insides of our computers.
