Bittorrent question
 

I've been running BT since I came home for christmas break, and it's been running fine, until yesterday.
Now it won't connect to Any peer at all.
I havn't really changed any settings lately, so I can't figure out what's going on.
if anyone could offer advice, it'd be appreciated.

Probably your ISP started blocking traffic on that port?

What he said is very possible. My ISP shut my internet off completely for 2 days for downloading a DVD from bittorrent. I had to sign a contract saying I wouldn't download another one before they gave it back. :crazy:

Or has your tracker gone down in the recent wave of *AA attacks? If you think your port's being blocked, just change it.

In case you haven't heard, all Suprnova.org links are dead. Some firm in France started a global investigation resulting in Suprnova.org shutdown.

I think it should work.
 

1) if your internet works, its likely not isp based. isp's wont mess with port blocking, they'll hold your modem till you call them. if you have no internet, call your isp.

2) supernova.org is down, but its only a torrent site. there are plenty of torrents out there, search for them in google. ie. "seinfeld torrent"

3) if you have a router it may be freaking out.

4) try uninstalling and reinstalling bit torrent. make sure you have the latest client.

5) if you've installed anything major lately it may have clobbered it (xp service pack 1 is famous for that move).

how about just changing the port on which you want to receive torrent files?

many ISPs block ports 6881-6889 which are default BT ports. A lot of trackers will even block clients with those ports trying to connect to it. Change them to something like 10500. Should work then.

i'd be pretty chocked if my isp 'all of a sudden' decided to port block; but i guess it depends what you (literally) signed when you (figuratively) signed up.

My college started blocking the standard bit-torrent ports. Then my friend gave me info on how to change the ports. I'm not sure if this will work for you but this is what I did:

Windows Explorer -> tools -> folder options-> file types tab

Then find torrent file from the list and put this where the normal command for the program goes

"C:\Program Files\BitTorrent\btdownloadgui.exe" --minport 10000 --maxport 10015 --responsefile "%1"

To be honest I'm not an expert at this stuff so do so at your own risk! :D

Use Azureus, its one of the most popular BT clients out there. Everything about it can be modified. Even ports.

i agree, check the ports, and then check a router. my router always jacks up and i gotta kick it in the face sometimes
