Cosmic -
You 're probably going to have to dowload and run "hijackthis" and clean up your temp files while in safe mode. http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html Also, here's a link to a good resource for getting rid of all sorts of malware, spyware, and viruses. Just run a search for the particular virus you have and chances are that there will be instructions on how to remove it. It's worth a shot anyway. http://forums.thatcomputerguy.us/lof...x.php/f39.html Good luck. I'm no expert on this stuff so hopefully someone here with a little more knowledge about this can offer some more advice. Last edited by RangerDick; 12-29-2004 at 05:57 PM.. |

Ok, first things first.
Go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com and download Ad-Aware Personal Edition. Download it to the desktop and install it. Go to http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html and download Spybot Search and Destroy. Save it to the desktop and install it. Download HiJack this from http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html and install it. Go to the start menu, click "Run" and type "Msconfig" and hit enter. Go to selective startup and uncheck and various programs that are not needed, ie. RealPlayer, Quicktime, and any suspicious viruses. Restart your computer and run in safe mode. Run your anti-virus software and then delete any viruses. Restart again into normal mode and then run Ad-Aware and Spybot, being sure to update them each. Restart again. Run Hi-Jack this and delete any suspicious files that you do not recognize as Windows files. Now, go to http://www.mozilla.org and download Firefox. Firefox is a different browser than IE with NO spyware, NO adware, and NO viruses.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try it and Pple, please keep posting
Thanks for the quick input guys.
I will try and make an attempt for to remove it because I've tried simliar techniques before. But this time, soccerchamp, I'll follow ur instructions step by step. I'll reply as soon I find out if it works or not. AND you know what?? I'm not even sure if this is connected to or related to the Polallr1.exe. The GREEN links I mentioned that appeared on IE, IT says SPONSORED LINKS on the IE taskbar, have any idea what it is? For example, when you do on Google, you normally won't see this but there are spam links embedded on every web pages. Its wierd and annoying. Thanks Cosmic |

another thing to remember---turn off system restore before you try removing any spy ware...if it is in your system files they will be protected by system restore....you might also install a little freeware program called win patrol---you will be able to see what is running and what has been added to your IE6.
Crap Cleaner (free) is also a good cleanup app for both temp files and the registery....(and you don't have to open the registery and edit it)..let us know how it goes down..VG |
