Hotmail and Gmail compatability
Hi everyone. I remember ages ago when Gmail was brand new that there were lots of rumors about how Hotmail blocked Gmail e-mails, or how Gmail blocked Hotmail e-mails. I sent some back and forth between my Gmail and Hotmail accounts and it all worked but I've since had numerous reports from people that they never recieve my e-mails when I send them from my Gmail account to their Hotmail. The last two e-mails I've sent from Gmail to Hotmail haven't gone through.
I know I'm on the safe-list and all that stuff, no junk mail filters set by my recipient are blocking me. Is there any truth to the rumors that Hotmail blocks Gmail or am I just having a run of back luck here? |
I would be willing to bet that it's more bad luck than anything. As many people as there are at each service, it seems more of a bad business decision to start blocking whole domain names from sending mail.
I really haven't seen any problems yet with Google's outgoing mail queue, but then again, they have a lot less users. (personally, i also think it's because they're running linux instead of some exchange mockup.) With Hotmail, you are put into a queueing group to send mail. Once your group is filled up, you are moved to a load balanced machine and scheduled for delivery. This can happen almost instantly or can take up to 10 minutes or so. Just depends on where you are in the group. The closer you are to the lowest number in the group, the longer you will have to wait until the group reaches it's limit. Sometime, mail does get lost. |
I'm not having any problem going back and forth, except the send tome from google to hotmail is m,uch slower than from hotmail to gmail.

Well, you can cheat if you want to invite someone who is not receiving the invite. Just send it to yourself, or to an address you know will bounce, and in the message you'll find the link they have to click on. Copy and paste it into a normal e-mail for them. Maybe they'll get that message instead.

I've not received e-mails and not been able to send e-mails with GMail if they have certain keywords in them. I dropped GMail like a bag of ice at a family reunion once I noticed they cancelled certain e-mails with certain keywords. I'm not gonna put up with filtered e-mail services.
