Odd Problem with my Desktop...

I don't like using desktop backgrounds, but invariably whenever I just pick a color other than white, the pixel in the upper left hand corner is always white. It doesn't stay changed in applications, so I believe its something with explorer. Any ideas?

Strange Problem, Is it a flat panel monitor? And is there a white pixel there if you make the background an image (even an image thats for example, all black). And you say it doesnt stay white when theres a program over it?

Nope, its not a flat panel, and its not a dead pixel either, because when I put a program over it it shows up just fine.

I googled it, and it popped up a windows 98 error that sounded strangely similar, but that had to do with viewing your desktop as a webpage.

Are you using windows 98 or ME?

If so go to the desktop properties and make sure 'view my desktop as a webpage' or 'enable active desktop' is unchecked

I'm running Windows XP Home edition with all the updates downloaded.

Might be something putting a window up there just out of reach. Does it show up when you safe boot?

cyrnel may be on to something... it's possibly something running in the background that you don't know about. i'd recommend doing all of the typical secirty sweeps for viruses, spyware, adware, etc. see if it picks anything up.

Yeah it's probably something actually running in the background with just 1 pixel showing in the corner there to try to hide itself. If you can, increase the screen resolution and see if anything more shows. If you can't, go through the task manager (crtl+alt+del to get to it) and go to the processes tab and arrange by user. Start killing tasks that are under your user one by one and see if it goes away. Careful not to kill SVCHost or your pc will restart.

I ended up doing a clean format when I added a new card today, and the problem went away...

Damn Spyware crap probably!
