What do you keep on your USB thumbdrive?

I recently aquired a portable USB storage device. I'm wondering what ya'll keep on yours. Right now, I only have portable firefox. This allows me to use the same browser enviroment at work and in the labs at school, too. Looking for more ideas, though! Share what's on yours.

You're just showing off :)

I store my main backup files on the mem stick. MS Money file, bookmarks.html, CV and such like.

martinguerre 12-19-2004 01:17 PM

my capstone paper for my major, and 750 megs of mp3s. there isn't any work worth doing that can't be done while rocking out.

belkins 12-19-2004 02:39 PM

Mostly stuff that I have to install on other user's computers at work (I'm a system administrator) and warez. :)

7w17ch 12-19-2004 03:10 PM

putty, schoolwork, pgp keychain, my resume.

a few other things, but thats the primary use.

No way, that portable firefox is AWESOME. I'll have to download that one. I keep an executable of vnc on my drive. Anywhere I can go, I can vnc to my home pc and access anything I want. It's great :D.

bgivnin 12-19-2004 11:07 PM

I use mine for transferring work related stuff that's bigger than sending by e-mail, for transporting my music ideas to other computers, as well as my website work.

Currently, I have my employer's website, NetOP (VNC prog), and a few mp3s that I snagged from a friend's machine when he was in town over the summer. I love being able to go anywhere and netop into my machine.

ggadgit 12-20-2004 05:35 AM

Add-aware, spybot, IE6, and other cleanup tools

God of Thunder 12-20-2004 07:16 AM

Spyware removers, some work-related files, and Atari emulator, a Euchre game and some other misc files.

I like the idea of keeping the VNC executable on there. Thanks for the tip.

However, did you know that you can VNC from any browser? Just type in the IP address of the machine you want to hit followed by :5800.

wolf 12-20-2004 06:06 PM

Putty, Sniffer, a few dos utilities like fdisk, ntldr.dll (WIN2K and WINXP)

I keep a backup of my website and an sql dump of its database and lots of school notes and essays. I still have some install progs from when i was downloading software on one network and then taking it over to my laptop. Got putty and winscp on there as standalone .exe's. Also a prototype page for a new website i'm developing for my friend's band and a prolog tutorial in pdf format.

All my spyware tools....umm some mp3's...all my programming assignments.....and then some cool videos that I like to share with people...Mostly I use it for business work.

typhus 12-21-2004 08:00 PM

Spyware removal tools, VNC, and other work related stuff

Jolt 12-21-2004 09:26 PM

about two dozen mobo BIOS flash files
a dozen or so RAID card flash files
autoexec.bat that displays a menu from which to choose the above
Intel, Realtek, & Broadcom network drivers
...and some wallpaper bmps

(these things work hard for us. we have literally worn some cheap ones out!)

skaven 12-22-2004 12:57 AM

My pen drive is also my MP3 player (Creative MuVo TX FM), so it generally contains just MP3s. However occasionally I'll drop a pendrive linux distro on it when I need a mobile development environment.

underscor_ 12-22-2004 12:36 PM

Good suggestions. I've added ad-aware, putty, WinSCP to mine. I've also found a neat program for managing passwords - KeePass. It lets you keep track of all your passwords and accounts from one program. Now I have different passwords on every site, finally!

I primarily use my flash drive as a back up for all my school related work such as my thesis, psych reports, powerpoint presentations, and my resume.
My flash drive has saved me many a times.

Some stuff that would get this post deleted, Adaware, Spybot, Winzip, Winrar, Winamp, Media Player 10, Real Alternative, DivX, Nero, Audio Codecs, think that's about it - I put mp3s on there a lot too.

Ditto:

Spybot, adaware, hijack this, virus scanners for all sorts of stuff. Whatever patches are around for the software we're using. Swiss army software!

I've got the same model. I love that it's an MP3 player and a usb protable together. Really cool. I mostly store MP3's and whatever files I'm trying to transfer between computers.

These USB drives remind me of a Hitchcock movie, in that they may contain the McGuffin that the bad guys are searching for.

Just got one of these for xmas. I think putty and vnc are a great idea, and I didn't know that you could use a browser to get to VNC. Thats cool to know. When I put my pix in at home I am going to store my vpn config file and the cisco vpn client on there too.

cataklysm 12-28-2004 11:42 PM

resume, school stuff, winrar, daemon tools, and lots of MUSIC

Bratwurst 12-29-2004 05:06 AM

I kind of wish i had one of the drives with the fingerprint reader on them, because I just know that I am going to lose this thing. So it makes me wonder how much I really want to put on it.

I had to use it at work today because I had a server I really needed a file off of that wasn't connected to the network and the file was inside a zip archive. Of course, the server did not have a unzip program installed. So I just plugged in my flash drive and installed winzip from it. Problem solved!

GakFace 12-29-2004 06:56 AM

Bratwurst: Attatch it to your keys. Problem solved. (If not... attatch your keys to a belt clip)

Bratwurst 12-29-2004 02:26 PM

I have a gigantic key chain that already has an rsa token on it. Be pretty big thing hanging off the side of my laptop! Maybe I should just seperate out my keys to seperate rings. I don't need all my keys on any given day.

Willravel 12-29-2004 03:39 PM

*walks away*

Bratwurst 01-12-2005 09:01 AM

I think I might add my favorites folde for IE onto it, as I am moving machines a good deal at work now and I want to be able to check sites that I may not remember the addresses for.
