Ever time i try to save a image to my computer, i can only save it as .art or .bmp. I've been able to save images as .jpg and .gif before but from some unknown reason i don't have that choice anymore. Would any of you guys know how to get these options back? Thanks for your help.

odds are this will work:
just type in the extension yourself manually
when the "save as" dialog box comes up, just plug the extension after the flie name and it will save as such.
for example, if you're saving a file named "picture" but it won't let you select anything else but bitmap from the filetype pulldown menu, just change "picture" to "picture.gif" and it will probably work. rather, it works for me. hope it works for you.

it depends on what software you are using to view the picture. I will suggest you download and install IRFANVIEW (http://www.irfanview.com) it is freeware, and is EXCELLENT. if you associate your files with it (it does this for you when you install) you can use it to crop, save as different formats, and do other basic photo editing functions (very basic...not a photo editor) quickly.

ONE NOTE: When you are installing, it checks off all the extensions you want to associate with this program. DO NOT associate .ICO files or every icon on your PC will be re-associated and use the default irfanview icon. I found this out the hard way and was never able to recover from it. had to re-install the OS. This was many years ago and maybe the software is smarter than that by now but better to be safe than sorry.

this simply sounds like a full IE cache?

(and I don't use IE, so don't ask me how to fix it. but it's a common problem I've seen posted about. search this forum or google).

Used to happen to me all the time in IE. But in Firefox it works fine, which makes me think it's either spyware or an IE bug.

that is correct. delete temporary internet files and cookies, and voila, .jpg's will be back
