VHS PAL/NTSC Question
Back when I was a teenager in Europe, my brother and I made some movies of our own with a camcorder. There's 4 VHS tapes full of this footage, about 3-4 hours on each tape, recorded in SP. A lot of material of family vacations, too, my now-dead dog, etc. In other words, stuff with enormous emotional value.
Herein lies the problem. I want to capture these tapes onto DVD. Don't worry, I already know how to convert VHS to DVD, so this isn't one of those threads. But I don't have a multiformat VCR, and these VHS tapes are recorded in PAL. Since I already have a 1-year-old perfectly well functioning VCR, I'd rather not go and invest in a multiformat one just for these four tapes. What relatively cheap alternatives are there? Help me out with any advice you might have. I am not keen on the idea of buying a multiformat VCR from eBay, since used VCRs can eat the tape at times and that's the last thing I need.

1) Look in the yellowpages under video and you should find companies that will convert your PAL to NTSC.
2) In chinatown in Toronto, there are many local video stores (i.e. not chains stores) that offer this service at a reasonable price.
