Soyo Sy-KT600 Dragon Plus v2 IDE 1 Slave Problem
I recently put together this PC
SY-KT600 Dragon Plus v2.0 2500+ Semperon 512MB PNY DDR 333Mhz SDRAM Visiontek Xtasy 9200se 128MB 8x AGP Seagate 160GB 7200RPM UATA/100 Samsung 16x DVD-+RW Dual Layer AZZA 450W PS Win XP Home I am only using IDE 1 with the HD on the master and the Samsung Optical on the slave. I have them jumpered this way as well. I have a problem when I cold boot the machine. I get this POST error. "Pri Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible" followed by "Press F1 to continue" If I press F1 the machine boots normally but of course without the optical drive. When I restart the machine I do not get a POST error and I can see the Optical drive in Windows. I can reboot all day long and no error. Cold boot and error every time. I do get power to the optical drive at all times. I have updated the BIOS and have it set to no fail performance, updated all the drivers from the Soyo site. Downloaded all the critical, security, and driver updates from Windows Update. I have used different power connectors in the case and still the problem exists. Am I missing something in the BIOS? or is this Motherboard bad? Thanks in Advance! OB |

I have had similar issues, It was something to do with how it was listed in bios, like where you configure hard drives.... I don't know if it wanted to be listed there as a cdrom or not, I think I actully had to remove it in bios, basicly telling it that all i had was a HDD connected but not the cdrom, and then it would find it anyways on boot and it would work in windows fine.....
Just experiment with having selected in bios as a cdrom, if that don't work, use auto select, still not, select none.... I can't shut down the computer I had that issue with right now, it is one of our fileservers here at the office and they might not like that too much... though I need to reboot for Veritas anyways so if i have a chance i will look and see today... |

It would be a good idea to try the drives on diffrent chains frist to see if you still get the problem, I use to have problem with haveing an optical drive on the same chain as my diskdrive. (data corruption, HDD Slowed down to drive speed). Make sure the you change your bios to reflect moving the burner to a diffrent chain also.
