I've been what most would consider a tech for the last few years. I started out at a all Mac K-8 school district, and still work there during the summers. At this point I've standardized most of the client equipment that they use - but it varies from power PC 5400/5500's in the elementary levels to iBooks for every 6th, 7th, and 8th grader. Thank god I don't have to support 180 laptops used by 12 year-olds. Most likely will be working on a rapid image deployment for them the next time I'm there.
During the year I work for a college tech department. See all sorts of strange things - boston creme pies spilled in laptops, and more than a fair share of beer. My best example of what Dell CompleteCare doesn't cover: once a client (student) brought in a Latitude where its power adapter nub had broken off inside the machine. They had superglued everything together, the cord to the nub, and both to the laptop. Only came in because they didn't know why the superglue didn't let the machine power up.
