Hard Drive recovery?
Story time... My friend drops by earlier today and wants to get something off his external 80 gig HD and put it onto my laptop. So to save a minute or two of work, I decide to plug his HD in using my laptop plug. The HD, however, decides not to work. Comparing the power supply of the HD and the power supply of the laptop, the HD requires 12v input, and my laptop requires 20v. Basically I overpowered the HD.
We opened up the external HD case, removed the actual HD, bought a 3.5" HD (IDE) > USB 2.0 box, and put the HD into it. Power it up... no good. Hard Drive ith dead; fried. Is there anything more we can do to try to recover the data off of it?

Not with out spending a lot of money, you sure the drive is dead? As in no spinning, clicking ect? You probably just burnt out the motor, so the data is still there. Unless you have a few $1000, your SOL. you'll notice that the places that can do it, don’t list prices regularly.
Good luck.

Well, we power it up, and the motor spins momentarily before stopping... Don't know how much that will help, but yeah, more info?
It would be nice to get this HDD back cuz it actually was his primary drive, since he switches computers so often.

it could work, granted that it is just the board, nothing more serious, this will ruin the warranty (duh)
