memory timings
I have this set of corsair memory and the timings, according to newegg, should be 2-3-3-6. However, SiSoft Sandra reads them as
Bank 0 : 512MB DDR-SDRAM 2.5-3-3-8CL 2CMD Bank 2 : 512MB DDR-SDRAM 2.5-3-3-8CL 2CMD are they being timed too slow? how do I clock them too 2-3-3-6? What the hell is memory timing anyway? |
Here is a nice artical about memory timings. http://www.cooltechzone.com/index.ph...d=377&Itemid=0
But there is nothing your going to notice by the timings being off a bit, but if your worried contact newegg and tell them the problem and thay will most likely replace them sence it says it has a life time warranty. |
Perhaps your BIOS set them to "safe timings", i.e. the slowest it can think off. The memory should have a chip onboard that tells the BIOS how fast it can run, but it seems this isn't read properly, or isn't setup properly. Did you read the motherboard's manual?
The XMS modules are indeed rated for 2-3-3-6 speeds, and I doubt they're defective; I have rarely seen defective XMS modules (and I've sold lots of them in my shop). I'd look at the BIOS first, and if that doesn't solve it, they *might* be defective. Or you might need a BIOS update. what brand and type of motherboard do you have? |
