Mac Classic help needed
so i have this little problem on boot, it gives me a frown and numbers:
00000004 00000010 nothing more, this thing was bad ass in 1991, i feel it still rules. if only i knew anything about them it would be even better.... if anyone might have an idea or know what is up i would greatly appreciate the input, thanks ya'll...

That indicates a hardware error.
I would open it up and try pressing down on any socketed chips and connectors to make sure they're seated. If that doesn't work, unplug the floppy and then the hard drive and see if the Sad Mac error goes away. After that I'd try replacing the RAM modules. If that doesn't help you probably need a logic board. |

Presuming you have a #15 Torx driver with an 8" shaft...getting into one of these is simple.
The logic board has one meg of memory on it, then there's an expansion card with a second meg on it, and the card has two slots for holding two 256kb or 1mb SIMMs. The max for this machine was a whopping 4mb to go along with its 8MHz 68000 cpu. If you pull out the mem expansion and you can boot, but one meg isn't enough to boot your system...you can power on and hold down "Command" "Option" "X" "O" This will boot the machine from a minimal System 6.0.3 image stored in ROM...this was the only machine Apple did this with. I have a Classic, a Plus, and an SE/30 in my collection. They make wonderful terminals. |
