yeah, why waste your money on something so heavy? projectors are more space efficient as well. there simply shouldn't be a choice.

I am now a carpet and baseboard away from being done. The furniture is 2 months out, but the room is nearly there. I'll try to get pictures soon.

This is really cool, Catmandu. I've been planning to get a projector for quite a while (finishing the basement right now, actually).

For all you people that have experience with this stuff, which ones are generally better DLP or LCD??

Oh and one more thing, I did buy one projector from BestBuy (couldn't wait to check it out) and when I was waching some stuff from VCR I got like really flickery colors around white color on the screen. Is this happening to you, Catmandu? I've heard that all lower-priced projectors do that with component input.

BTW, I have my eye on BenQ PB6100 and BenQ PB6200. Is that a good choice??

hi there
i have a projector and it is amazing! i found it in a skip...i just happened to see it poking out as i was walking past and so i pulled it out and fixed it! works a treat.
i haven't got surround speakers but i am thinking of getting some soon!
you are supposed to be able to get a good 600-700 hours out of the bulbs which ain't bad i reckon...

the thing about projectors is that there isn't a "perfect" technology. both DLP and LCD have come a long way, but each has their own faults... so it's basically a 'pick your poison' situation. whatever you choose, you should do a LOT of research first and never buy on impluse when it comes to projectors... there's too much money at stake. a few good sites to start you out:

as for myself, i'm very close to having my new projection theater up and running. today i finished making my screen... it turned out better than i imagined and should give me a picture size of about 113" with a 16:9 aspect ratio. tomorrow i'll run the wires everywhere and hook everything up! (and take pictures, of course) :)

well, i finally finished hooking everything up around 2am... and after a few minutes of fumbling with an unfamilar reciever remote, i was watching my new panasonic ae700u for the first time. i am still at a loss for words.... it is un-freaking-believable how awesome it looks having a "TV" that HUGE in my living room. i haven't tweaked the settings to perfection yet, but the picture quality is still incredible... and did i mention that it's BIG? :D

the really fun stuff comes tomorrow... tweaking the settings, then really testing to see what it's capable of... i need to call and get HD TV hooked up right NOW!! :)

pictures soon...

The basement has been finished for a few months. My daughter has already had 5 or 6 parties down there. Here is a link to a picture:

(I can't seem to make TFP work with any of my photos.)

System details:
Infocus SP4805 projector
Infocus 76" screen (soon to be upgraded)
Yamaha VSX1300 receiver
Acurus A200x3 amp
Parasound HCA1500 amp
Panasonic S97 DVD player
Totem Rainmaker center channel speaker
Totem Rokk front speakers
Definitive Technology BPX1(?) surround speakers
Belkin PureAV PF31 power console
You can't see the stereo cabinet in the photo. It is off to the left, past the brick fireplace.

My DVD shelves are 4 separate units, each $10 worth of pressboard but they work great! And, they match the laminate floor by the stairs. They are on the right side of the photo, under the screen. I did all the painting and the trim work. My wife did the stencilling. You can't see it from this angle, but to the left is a gas fireplace insert. It puts out some serious BTU-age. In fact, we got the room so warm one day in March that we lay down a towel in front of the fireplace and "christened" the room.
