Firefox killed my interweb!
 

My interweb connection was crossconnected to my AOL and the rotory girder collapsed when the datum calculated the value of XML!!

Or,

I moved my wife's computer from Firefox .9, which was ticking along just fine, and after I updated my box to 1.0 from 1.0PR, and now every site I try and connect to errors out. The error message is "The connection was refused when attempting to contact blahblah.com"

I can see pages using IE, there is good connectivity on the box. Literally, the only thing I did was upgrade Firefox, and reboot.

XP pro and absolutely no issues/problems at all, except and until this one.

Ideas?

This makes no sense to me. I can't even ping my own router, nor can I connect to the router. However, connectivity is fine? I don't get it at all. IE sees the web fine, outlook express has no issues, msn messenger is fine, but I can't ping my router? WTF? My box, on the same network, can ping the router.

Uninstalled, reinstalled Fox 1.0, still a no go. Pitch it, reinstall .91 works great. Whatever...

I can't tell you what, specifically, is wrong, but it could simply be a bad install.

If you haven't done this already, try uninstalling FX and re-installing it. If that by itself doesn't work, backup your FX profile and delete every trace of FX from your system. Then re-install.

Or perhaps you need a new rotary girder. :p

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(random junk)\ and back up your bookmarks.html

After doing that, uninstall Firefox and delete the "Mozilla" directory in Application Data. Then, reinstall Firefox. Copy the backed up bookmarks.html into its original location. Chances are it will work again after that.

go to tools options then the last thing on the general tab which says connection settings..check to make sure you don't have a proxy on..or that it got erased (in case you did have one.)

IE may look like its working because all your pages are cached. If you can't ping anything it seems as if your actually aren't connected????

do you have any firewall software? I recently had a friend who could ping but her web browser (IE) did not work - her nortons virus/firewall was blocking surfing. This could also block pings perhaps...

No firewall. Not ZoneAlarm or XP's is on. Checked the proxy option in tools. I thought about cached pages in IE fooling me, so I googled some random words that popped into my head. Everything worked. Also, outlook received and sent mail. Additionally, I can still use the network printer, and use my box's shared drives.

I reverted to Firefox .9.1 and it works fine. I'll have to try Secret's suggestion, but my wife and I are moving into our first house this weekend, so time for needless fux0ring with FireFox's ass is not available.
