Converting bitmap to jpeg/gif
Is this possible? It must be, right? Basically what I wanted to do was change the color of my avatar. So I did this in MS Paint and saved the new image as a bitmap file. How can I convert this to jpeg or gif so I can upload it here?

Can't do the Save As thing. Only option I have is to save it as a bitmap file.
Don't have paintshop or photoshop either

Hi Averett,
I've just tried and you should be able to go into MS Paint and choose File > Save As... Then from the 'Save As Type:' drop down box, simply choose JPEG or GIF. Save it accordingly and wahay you go...

Averett, it sounds like you need to download some filters to allow MS Paint to save in the formats you need:
Filters & Advice You can get them from the above link, Good Luck!

The ONLY option I have is to save as bitmap. Nothing else.
Is there a program online that I could use to convert it? I want to figure out how to do it for future usage too. Clearing cookies didn't help either. Now I'm hungry. And I'm at work and can't download anything! Just to complecate things more

I've emailed it to myself, so when I get home tonight I'll try out these suggestions. Stupid Nazi's here won't let us download things...

I second the recommendaiton for Irfanview. It is an excellent program, and will allow you to convert files properly. There is more to it than just changing the extension.

I would have to say that likely your version, as spindles said, at work isn't capable of it.
newer versions of paint are pretty useful, although you might still want to check out Irfanview... It is a nice little program that lets you do a lot of quick image edits (dealing with size, file type, etc) |

Yeah my PC at work is older than XP. Windows 2000 pro or something like that. I was hoping for some online thing like www.gifworks.com to do the conversion. Something I didn't have to download
I've downloaded Irfanview as well, it does look pretty useful. Thanks for the help guys
