Linux wizards please help!

I run a Dual-Boot system, and I have been wanting to switch from WinXP to Linux (Redhat 9) for quite a while now, but I just end up going back to MS stuff because it's what I know. However I have just had a revelation as to why I keep going back....I can't stand the fact that the middle button(Scrollwheel) on my Logitech MX300 won't execute the"Browser Back" command when pushed.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Please remember, I am a newbie, so in-depth instructions are a must!

Thanks in advance!

The browser Galeon should come with RedHat 9. If not, download it from http://galeon.sf.net/. After you run it for the first time, go into Settings -> Preferences -> User Interface -> Mouse -> Middle Mouse Button, and select "Go back in history."

Galeon's a good browser. It uses the Mozilla rendering engine, so it's basically Mozilla with a different (imho, better) shell on top.

I think that you may not have clicked on "Emulate 3-button mouse" during the Xwindow configuration during your install. I have Redhat 9.0, and I'm using a Logitech scrolling trackball with no problem. I think you can re-configure your mouse if you click on the "Start here" icon; that will open up a window with several icons, one of them allows you to re-configure your mouse.

You want "Emulate 3-button mouse" OFF if you have a three button mouse. Emulate 3-button mouse makes right+left == middle

Check to make sure your mouses buttons are being reported. In a terminal type: xev (i think that is the name), and in the box that shows up click your middle mouse button. If it shows action in the terminal you started it in then you button works.

Getting it to do a "Back 1 in History" on click is dependent on the browser you are using, so you will need to provide a bit more information than you have given.

Currently using Konquerer as browser, but I am open to any other browser that can do this....I tried the Galeon browser as suggested above, but when I try to install it, I have so many Mozilla deps. come up that I don't know how to get around it... I appreciate the help, so please continue!
