Lost all my bookmarks with upgrade to Firefox 0.10
I was sailing happily along with ver .09 or whatever it was. i saw that there was a new download. so i downloaded it. and proceeded to lose all my bookmarks. i probably had 200-300.
I posted in the mozillazine forums for help but talk about rude and unhelpful. No, i didnt make a backup of my bookmarks. didnt think about that. but i didnt expect to get clobbered by 1.0, while over at the mozillazine forums, i read that a lot of people lost some or all of their bookmarks. Hopefully, those open source gurus can fix that problem. so, all of you, BEFORE you upgrade, backup your bookmarks. you can find it if you do a search of your computer for bookmarks.html. i wish i knew this before i upgraded. Hindsight is 20/20. |
Wow, that bites. Sorry to hear it.
Are you totally out-of-luck? If you could PM me your username over on mozillazine I'll read what has gone on so far, and see if I can provide any additional help. (I checked mobo123, and didn't find it there.) |
i nearly lost my backups when i upgraded from the original versions to v9, but luckily i had the folder synching with my laptop, so managed to retrieve them...cheers for the advice.

Remember, everything pre-1.0 is not really an "end-user" release (and keep in mind, that includes going from 0.9 or 0.10 to 1.0 - campatibility may be broken). Precautions such as backing up your bookmarks need to be taken.
Sorry to hear about what happened. I lost my bookmarks once back around v0.6 - it's not fun. |
redlemon, i was just a guest at the forums. i havent registered there.
|
OK, then, do you want us to try to help you additionally, or have you written your bookmarks off?
|
not sure what else i can do. I went through every single file, hidden and not, this past weekend. All the bookmarks are gone. Can you come over and fix my screwup? :p
|
it all should be saved in a folder of data....and that should NOT be overwritten by updates.... I'm not sure where it is in windows though (linux it's .pheonix...wait..now it's .firefox/)
ok...just looked it up for windows C:\Documents and settings\your account\Application data (hidden)\firefox |
On my Windows system it is %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox.

if you run windows xp, have you tried system restore? i always turn that feature off but maybe you dont. might be worth trying if you really have important bookmarks
|
i tried system restore 4 times. each time failed. I think this is firefox's way of telling me i screwed up.
