Being transfered to Germany. Need Help.
My son is in the Army, he is being transfered to Germany. Being a tanker, I believe he is going to the 1st Armor Div.
He wants to buy a lap top to take with him. Is this fiesable? Are the barracks wired for High Speed, what will the problems be with the 220 volts on a lap top. Are there computers available if he doesnt buy a laptop? Anyone been there, done that? |

I was stationed in germany for three years yes we had high speed internet, most barracks are wired 110 and even if he gets old barracks they sell transformers that stepdown the volts and you can usually buy them cheap from soliders who are leaving. You can also buy computers, laptops, and other computer items at the PX. Germany is very technologicly advanced. Its a very beautiful place and has everything he needs there.. Good luck to your Son. You can pm me if u have any other questions

Well just came back from studying there and i had the best time, but studying is studying and the army is a whole different ball game. Anyway the English voltage system is different from the german and i just bought a plug adaptor and was on my way to success. A laptop has a transformer on it that steps down the voltage it needs so there should be no problem. Laptops are designed to be used anywhere and that means different countries to and if they weren't they'd be pretty shit for the business person or student or anyone.
As for the army having high speed internet, who knows but i expect so. It is afterall the american army you guys have everything.
