firefox period
ok i have been seeing the avatars and hearing about firefox for a little while so i downloaded it. now i have been readin all this stuff about extensions and how to use it and basiclly just transform it into " the shit" so my question is will the release tuesday have all the extensions built into it? is there a place where you can download all the extensions built into it. is there a place where you can read what they all do. from what i have been reading there are a bunch of them like alott and so it makes me wonder why they arent just included in the prog. are they after market or whats the deal. why get the new prog and then go upgrade it so much?

It would be a bad idea to include ALL extensions into firefox, because several conflict with each other. For example, it's not a good idea to install two different tab browsing extensions.
So why not choose the best of the best and include that? Bingle made a good point: who decides what is best? If firefox started doing this I would just go back to Opera. As it stands, Mozilla has allowed me the chance to make the browser as perfect as I can make it (always room for improvement but still...). |

so is there people out there that have created thier own ideas of the perfect browser that share them.
i subscribe to some other places that for instance create and then share their favorites lists of stuff. that could be a good idea. specially if someone like myself isnt real learned in the options but would like to use whats out there.

Just to add some perspective to what is being asked. These are 2 sites that have a majority of the extensions available for downloading.
http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/ (main/official one) http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?act=idx (good secondary source) Just look at the list from the main extensions site (texturizer.net link) and you can already tell that it's not feasable to have all the extensions built into it. Also not all extensions are compatible with each other. Several also do similar things and can cause browser instability. |

ok since i started this i guess ill keep trying to use it.. anyone know how to add your ms dictionary ( ie the one you use in outlook or word) to spellbound? since i have my own little language and it allready has most of my "made up" words or spellings of them this would be handy after all this is a customisable browser..

If you haven't already, I recommend you become a member of the Mozilla Support Forum. You will be more likely to find answers there, plus lots of interesting browser tweaks are posted there regularly, and the news on fresh nightly builds. It has been a wealth of information for me.

Not exactly sure everything you're going for, but here are a few tips:
1) Don't get any tabbed browsing extensions at this point. It is my understanding that with the 1.0 release some of the most wanted features that people get the various tabbed browsing extensions (such as TabBrowser Preferences) for are going to be in the 1.0 release. 2) The reason it doesn't come with all these extensions is twofold. Both reasons have been touched upon already, but I just want to reiterate them. First is that they are **NOT** made by Firefox developers. There is no guarantee with any of them that they will work or work properly in Firefox. Because of this, it is best, IMO, to use Firefox with only those extensions which you will actually use/need. The second reason is that in the case of most extensions they are things that not every person would need in a browser. Rather than include "everything but the kitchen sink," they try to include the most basic and necessary things. Some features in extensions have been found to be so demanded that they have been added in. Most others, however, remain as extensions. As for spellbound, I don't use it so I can't help you there. The suggestion for the MozillaZine Forums is an excellent one though.
