How to get rid of evidence?

My gf has found some of my dirty work. How do i block her from seeing what webstites ive been on?

the internet options/delete cookies and historyy is done each time as well

Get TweakUI for whatever os you're using and go to the "paranoia" settings section.

Google for tweakui download.

If you have XP Pro, set her up as a different user and store your movies and pictures you don't want her to see in a folder that is not readable by her. Make sure her account is not an Admin account, but a power user if you still want her to be able to change some settings and install one or two things.

WillyPete 11-05-2004 02:53 AM

Make sure you set the options to clear My Documents at logoff too. Otherwise she just hits the start menu> Documents and sees a list of all recently viewed images or mivies.

Stuff like c#cksucker.jpg is a dead giveaway. ;)

tropple 11-05-2004 03:11 AM

What OS are you using? Do you have different logins?

trache 11-05-2004 05:58 AM

Don't forget the MRU (Most Recently Used) lists for various programs. You could get caught viewing questionable multimedia content if the person in question looks through the "File" menus.

Your best bet is to get Evidence Eliminator.

Stan 11-05-2004 06:30 AM

Instead of Internet Explorer, use Mozilla Firefox (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...up%201.0PR.exe). The Clear All button in the options works well.

If you're using WinXP, right-click->Properties on the Taskbar, Start Menu tab, Customize button, Advanced tab, Clear List button.

I'm not sure if 3rd party software is really needed. If they clean really obscure registry keys, what are the chances that someone would know enough to look for them?

Redlemon 11-05-2004 06:35 AM

CCleaner - Crap Cleaner software download does a nice job of erasing tracks, and is freeware unencumbered by spyware. Also works with Firefox.

But don't you feel stupid hiding these things from your girlfriend? I watch porn with my wife. She knows that the visual enjoyment I get from porn has nothing to do with what I think of her, and that she is getting all the attention from me that she wants.

aktornado 11-05-2004 11:26 AM

If your GF is good with computers, I wouldn't try and hide it, it's nearly impossible to get rid of all the evidence. If she's not, usually just a clean up of the temp files, history pages, and recent documents does the trick. ;)

TheBrit 11-05-2004 11:45 AM

Of course, if she's looking, she'll know you've been covering your tracks by the absence of files.

merlin 11-05-2004 12:07 PM

or don't let her use your comp? alwasy a possibility

Excellent point.

Try and get a less snoopy or more tollerant girlfriend. That might help. My wife doesn't care as long as our kid doesn't see it.

shadowalker 11-05-2004 03:07 PM

stop looking at porn if you have a girlfriend. that will work also

This is all assuming we're talking about Windows (I'd say about a 97% chance you're using Windows), but maybe you should clarify just so we can be sure. What OS are you on?

tropple 11-05-2004 05:28 PM

Get a Bestcrypt and create an encrypted container.

Install Opera to that encrypted partition. Set the cache and bookmarks to directory in the encrypted partition Use Bestwipe to clean the page file and file slack space. Use MRU Blaster to clean up old most recently used file line.

Go to winguides.com and lookup how to disable My Documents and Recent folders.

You have the technology to be track free....

AngelicVampire 11-06-2004 06:03 AM

Out of curiosity, in XP (pro) how do you restrict access to folders to only a single user account, I hold the admin account however would like to restrict other users to seeing only public areas of my computer rather than having access to financial data and all that,

bal8664 11-06-2004 06:44 AM

If your girlfriend is snooping around your computer looking for your tracks i think you've got a more serious problem than covering them. If you cant be honest with your significant other than you might as well end the relationship now, all good relationships are based on a solid foundation of honesty. Just my $0.02.

Just realized I had "recently viewed documents" on my start menu.

I had to get that off of there immediately!

alpha phi 11-06-2004 12:48 PM

I use ultrawipe to clean up the computer
ad-aware se will also clean up MRUD's
in the end I just tell my wife
"I don't say anything about your pics of brad pitt and orlando bloom,
so leave my boob pics alone!"

Eric640 11-06-2004 02:03 PM

Just get evidence eliminator or the like. They all come with a free trial.
Theres WAY too many things in Windows to cover up manually.

right click on the folder in explorer, choose "sharing and security" and follow your nose

To combine several ideas:

1) If you have to hide it, your relationship is going to have issues. Either don't browse porn, or else talk to her and find out why she doesn't want you to - and try to find a common ground. Otherwise, you're going to be lying to her, and that's no good.

2) If you use the suggested ideas above (nuking your history, recent documents, etc.) it will look very suspicious to anyone who's used a computer before. "Gee, why doesn't this show recently viewed websites like it used to?" "I don't know honey, it only started happening within the last week."

However, if you really want to browse porn and hide it from her, here's my advice: either go with the "set up an encrypted drive, install Opera on it, and use Opera" idea, or else create an entirely seperate user for nothing but porn, and only browse porn websites from there. Then using XP's security features to lock down that user so no one else can look at the profile - and set a good password on it.

dksuddeth 11-08-2004 09:07 AM

get her her own computer and tell her to stop snooping on you and to not criticize you about it anymore. It's that or you're going to wind up with someone different later in life.
