So the thing is, I haven't made the effort to buy a fancy cordless mouse and everybody knows the mouse with a ball just gets dirty of all the surfing and gaming, so my question to you computer-gurus is:

Is it possible and if so, how to clean up the mouse ball?

I've taken care of the reels and usually that has taken care of it, but now the mouse ball really seems to be tired of all the porn etc.. :) (gay-mouse maybe..)

Washing - wiping ? With what ?

Every mouse that I've seen has a small circular 'door' that twists to remove. Once that is off, you can take the ball out and clean it. Also clean the two nylon rollers on the inside as they collect lint and disrupt the sensitivity of the mouse.

Unless you are asking about something else entirely, this should do it.

I would use rubbing alcohol to clean the ball. Or any cleaning solution I guess. The ball is just metal wrapped in rubber, so I doubt you can hurt it.

If you want to clean/re-condition your ball-type mouse, here is what you need to do.

Pop the mouse ball out of the mouse. Locate and remove all the screws from the mouse. Once you have the mouse apart, you will see a small circuit board that has two rollers which are attached to two large wheels. You need to clean those rollers with a QTip soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol. Then, use compressed air to clean out the tiny holes around the circumference of each of those two plastic wheels attached to the rollers. Then, shoot a bit of compressed air into the optical sensors that each of the wheels pass through. Finally, clean the ball itself with alcohol, and reassemble.

Good as new (assuming you don't end up with 'spare' parts!) ;)

Hmm, no need to get a fancy cordless mouse. I'd recommend getting a simple corded optical mouse. The prices are really low now and you can get one for roughly the same price as a corded one with a ball.

Oh.. good to know.
But just simple washing the ball helped enough for now...
Next mouse will be propably that corded optical. :thumbsup:
