New DVD drive noisy

I just bought a new system off of newegg and while installing windows I noticed that the Lite - On Dvd Drive I bought makes ticking and clicking noises when reading. I called tech support and they weren't that helpful cause the drive still actually reads discs. I was just wondering if anyone else had one of these drives and if I should return it for a replacement.

Thanks

the drive

They should be just as loud and/or quiet as other drives. If you've never heard it before from another drive of the same caliber, then return it.

I've never had a drive of this caliber, my current system is 3 years old, so I have no idea.

Newegg are really good on returns and crediting your account. Just send it back, and get a replacement. Because theres not a "silence the click" button that you forgot to press, tech supports hands are tied, and they are not going to make suggestions that it could be a motor missalignment, or a guide rail is slightly bent.

Now, that being said, some of the fast models are wicked noisey from the CD-s spinning, and that is just the way some models are, but it shouldnt be clicking.
