can anyone reccomend a good/free download mgr?
i have dialup and have been interrupted several times at 80 or 90 percent while trying to download a huge file. can anyone reccomend a program that will keep track of my progress if i have dropoff or let me pause while i need to use the phone? stuff like that?
p.s. i use mostly firefox but have explorer if i need it... and i run xp pro. |
wget http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/wgetwin.html is a good command line download manager with decent resume capabilities... and it's GPL

FlashGet is the best I've ever used. They ever have a FireFox extension for it too.

Flashget!! FLASHGET!!! Mr Mephisto |
Download accelorator plus??? its spybot ish but it gets the job done right
|
I've been using FreshDownload, with no major issues. Isn't FlashGet shareware, not freeware?

It's free. If ya want to get rid of the tiny ad in the corner then you pay a small fine (or find another way of doing it ;)) but that's all it changes to my knowledge. - Undercover_Man |

Yeah but it's not as "nagging" as other's are. It just sits thiere changing every once in a while. Does no good or harm. and it's small. It's the best download program I've ever used.

Here it is man, Free Download Manager. No adware, spyware, or any of that other bullshit and it's absolutely free. It also seems to be updated fairly regularly, about once a month. I've been using it for quite awhile now and I've never felt like going back to GetRight or any other program that requires money.

thx... i like the sound of that last one nothing, so i'll try it... thanks for somethin'!

Reget www.reget.com is pretty decent.
The firefox manager is pretty good, do you have the latest release? |
Download accelerator is pretty good, just run adaware after installing it.
I find that it usually works 2-3x faster than stock downloads. |
ok i'm trying free download manager.... but i can't get it to work on the site i started this thread for... its' home of the underdogs... it has a bunch of old games... and when you start downloading they have you type a little code... when i do it the file starts downloading in my firefox dload manager but the free download mgr doesn't see it... i have 2 ?'s here.
1)is there something in firefox that automatically saves and pauses downloads? because thats the program i have been losing connection and partially saved files on. 2) how do i get the free download manager to see the file when i save it while that little code thing is happening? |

I told you to use FlashGet. It can do what you're wanting it to do. It doesn't "require" money for it to work. They just have the tiny ad to help generate some money. Besides that it's freeware. All functional. And has an extension for Firefox. Download it. Use it. Love it. Ignore all these other crappy progs. - Undercover_Man |

There might be an easier way to get the referrer working automatically, but I haven't figured it out yet... this way should work okay though. |

I've been using the download with extension with flashget in firefox, and it works well but it doesn't send the referrer link. I've recently been trying the flashgot extension
http://software.informaction.com/cat...oduct=flashgot and this gives you some more options and also sends the referrer to your download manager. The workaround would be to manually copy the referrer link using teh download with extension. |
the protocol thing is working, thanks... it was tricky to find but not difficult to use once you know where it is
|
my preference is Opera's included DL manager. That is just one of many reason I prefer Opera over the gecko-based options for my primary browser.

firefox and the downTHEMall extension.
