I need some input from people who have one of these or a similar product. I have no idea where to start in terms of whats good and whats not. I know Kenwood makes some nice stuff. But what about Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion? Can anyone offer some advice? Oh its going into a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Thanks! |
All are very similar. The only stand out is the Alpine IVAD300 - it has a touchscreen that actually touches back LOL. Seriously, I would visit several local specialist retailers and take a look at the various models before making any buying decisions.

that touch screen is freaky. It's REALLY cool but startles you the first couple'a times you touch it. And no I don't own one, but I can play at the audio shop ;) I wish they'd come out with a retractible in-dash screen that could handle computer resolutions :P |
Another reason to visit a car audio shop is to get a feel for the GUI's of the various models. Some of the units I have used are rediculously hard to navigate. Spend some time with each unit doing common things like switching sources, adjusting tone settings etc.. Theres nothing worse then having to read the manual everytime you need to make a change on the fly

I have an Alpine IVAD-900, it rocks. Resolutions, nothing touches it. Go to several stores and check them all out, like Nelson said, they are all different in terms of ergonomics, some just outright sucks. Touchscreens are cool, except for the fingerprints. Do you have a budget you are working with? what is your objective? are you going to ad Nav to it?
