Ok, I'm starting my first thread (Yay for me! And who would've guessed it would've been in the computer geek forum!? :cool: )

Anyways, I've been using Gmail for awhile now. Its pretty cool but now it makes me login twice. The first time I have to put in my username and password like normal, the second time it makes me put in my password AGAIN and then put in some funky letters that show up on the screen. Whats up with that?

That's weird, the only time I've had to do that is what I type my password in wrong twice. The funky letters are to prevent a brut force hack where random passwords are entered until a match is found.

If you are entering the password correct the first time and it's not taking it, I'l send an email to gmail support and let them know..

hmmm they said they would do this because they want to limit 3rd party access...but I wonder why they are making you in particular do it every time.

I've never had to do this with my Gmail accounts. I do use the brower to remember the account info though.

Its still happening and I don't type in my password wrong the first time. It's getting to be a pain in the ass having to log in twice.

What browser are you using?

I've never had to do it.....well once...but I assumed I typed my password in wrong....

Internet Explorer...and I just realized it only does this on my home computer, but I can get right in on my work computer....hrmmmm.

i'd check your computer and make sure there aren't any spyware or adware issues... i don't know why this comes to mind, it just seems like a good idea. a virus scan would also be a good plan.

i started using third party software to check it and then noticed it would no longer connect, then I had to add in the "passcode" to login for quite some time, however, since i stopped using the 3rd party tool I haven't had to jump that hurdle for a while..

do you use any third party tools with gmail or do you leave your gmail account logged in for very long periods at a time?

i use the gmail extension with firefox which does a great job of monitoring gmail, lets me login with a single click and connects when i open the browser.

I use this to log in now. I log in once when I turn on my comp, then just double click the icon in the tool bar to check my mail.
