New Cell Phones
Hey everyone,
I just wanted an opinion on which cell phone to get, and if there are any other resources on the web (other than the obvious ones like CNET) for researching cell phones. I have Verizon service and live in the Tampa area. I've been looking at the Samsung 670, the Audiovox 9900, the LG 7000, and I'm considering waiting for the LG 6100 to come out. Anyone have any of these phones with an opinion? I can't wait to upgrade from my piece of junk Motorola T720. Thanks, Lpj8 |

What are your complaints on the T720? I would venture to say that it is your service provider at fault. I have the T731 (US Cellular T702 variant) and I have never had a better quality phone in all aspects. You can get a lot of into at www.howardforums.com

The T731 may have had all it's bugs worked out and may be a much better phone. I'm glad to hear someone likes their Motorola T7xx variant. |

We at US Cellular jokingly call Verizon customers our "beta testers." Check the US Cellular board at HowardForums and see all the happy owners of the T731. Verizon is currently "beta testing" the T710 for us here on US Cellular and we will have it around November-December time. Granted other providers offer the new phones first, but once they are released on US Cell there are rarely any problems with them.

I know that ATT Wireless is getting some cool new phones, but as for the coverage in the Tampa area, I am not sure what it's like.
Here is a link with some new Verizon phones though. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/fin...y&avr=r&av_1=y |

Thanks for the link AngelTek, I'd never came across phonescoop before
ATT wireless doesn't get great reception where I live. My good friend has it, and he never has reception in my apartment. There is a Verizon Tower very close to my apartment which works out well. |

If you ever want to see some really nice phones, go check out www.nttdocomo.com and see what the have to offer.
NTTDoCoMo is Japan's largest cellphone carrier, and as always, the Japanese are way ahead of the curve. Beautiful cellphones.

I've had a 720 from Cingular before and it was good for the first few months and then I started dropping calls left and right. I upgraded to a Motorola V220, it's a pretty solid phone, with built in camera and external caller id. The only problems are that the speaker phone is kinda sucky, and the ringer doesn't get very loud. Other than that I highly recommend it.

I think everyone that isn't six feet under wants a V3... I would drop the $500 in a minute if I was out of contract with US Cell and didn't have to pay the $175 early termination fee.

I like my little Moto V180.
I had a T720, and while I liked it, I had problems from the beginning. It rebooted itself constantly and stuff like that... and the speaker was SO QUIET... it really was frustrating to not be able to hear my phone in my pocket just simply walking down the street. The V180 is very feature rich; the whole interface itself just feels better, and it looks cooler, too. The earpiece is much louder than the V180, and the speaker can be DEAFENING! Okay, maybe not that loud... but you get the idea. I am a deep, deep sleeper, and my new alarm clock is my phone playing "Sober" at full volume... because it wakes me up much better than my normal alarm clock! Overall, the feature set is great, and the price is rock-bottom. It doesn't have a camera on it, but I know I, for one, don't really care about having a low-rez digital camera built into my cell phone... so it's perfect for me. You might try it or look at it and see if it would work for you - it really is a huge improvement over the T720.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I ended up getting the LG vx6100. While it's not as pretty as the V3, it was free, and I felt that Verizon didn't have a better phone for the money. It has all the features I could ever want including speakerphone and voice dial and plenty of features I'd never use like a camera. It comes with a nice clip that allows it to be flipped open while still in the case. It's great for when I'm driving. All I do is clip it to my visor and turn speaker mode on.
