Coolest. Mouse. Evar.
I have to say that there's no way I'd ever spend $80 for a mouse...but I was handed one of these to try out at work...
The Logitech MX1000 uses a laser, which they claim has 20 times the resolution of optical mice. It tracks and moves smoother than any other mouse I've handled in the past 20 years. It's a cordless, so there's a battery in it, and that gives it a REALLY nice heft and feel...I can't stand crappy lightweight mice. It's also just visually stunning...practically everyone who's walked past my desk in the past couple days has had to stop and look at it...put their hand on it...ask what the extra buttons do...so I haven't been getting as much work done because I keep demonstrating it...hehe... It has the usual scroll wheel which also can rock side-to-side, but it's flanked by a pair of buttons which by default "cruise" -whoosh- up and down long documents and web pages. Clicking the wheel, then rolling it, zooms the text on the screen. A pair of buttons for your thumb move forward/back, and a third one on the side calls up an Alt-Tab replacement. Logitech claims that the Li-Ion battery is good for 21 days on a 4 hour charge, or about a day after ten minutes on the jack. I have just been using it a day and a half, so I can't verify this statement yet...but the battery meter LEDs are pretty darn neat. I come home to my MS IntelliMouse Pro and now feel let down... ehh.... its okay. theres a couple lag issues and erratic movement issues logitech has to fix before i plunk down $80 for one of those. theres a 10 second lag when you pick up the mouse.. very bad in games! huge discussion about it here http://3dgpu.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=310

Looks pretty cool. I'm curious about the battery, though. We've got a last-generation Logitech cordless optical in a lab at work, and everybody forgets to put the damned thing back on the cradle. I come in, move the thing three inches and it's dead. Then I'm stuck trying to navigate with the keyboard while it charges back up...

I would love it if it had a left-handed version

There;s an even cooler mouse. A woman from ITT Tech visited my school the other day and gave our English class a PPoint presentation. She used this mouse that looked like a phaser. Unfortunately she knew nothing about the mouse, so I have no idea how to get one.

I used one of those things once for a PP Presentation (15 minutes) and when I was done I was debating wether or not to rip my hand off it was so cramped. |

it takes some getting used to, but really easy after that... although, I haven't seen one with a laser pointer. |

Just got one for my bday from my bro 2 days ago. Feels much more comfortable in the hand compared to the mx500. The design for the buttons are a lot better too, including the application switch button.
Great mouse. Takes some time to get use to because it is quite sensitive. |
