OSX-XP LAN with Internet Access??
What would be the hardware configuration that would allow me to do this:
Connect a Mac (OSX 10.3) to an XP (Home) computer in a simple home filesharing arrangement, and at the same time have internet access to both machines. I'm thinking more complex than just a simple ethernet hub? Also, is there a generally acknowledged preference in this setup as to which machine would be the server, and which the client? Thanks. |

Like has been stated before all you need is a router. Our wireless network in our apartment works fine. I have my PowerBook talking to two XP machines with no problem. I can see them, but the bitches cannot see me. Stupid unfriendly XP.

Thanks guys...
So basically you are saying that the below diagram provides for *both* local filesharing and internet access through the single ethernet router? Can it really be that simple lol?? That software link looks interesting, but I'm wondering what the point of spending $120 on it is..Im asking out of ignorance. Last edited by powerclown; 10-13-2004 at 10:33 AM.. |

there really is no point to that software, all you have to do is enable sharing on both machines, the diagram shown should work perfectly and you can map the mac as a network drive and the xp machine can be configured as a server within mac osx
