Hotmail finally jumped to 250mb
I just logged in to empty out my hotmail account like I do every morning, and it said 1% of 250mb used.
I know that there has been talk of Hotmail giving us more space ever since GMail was announced, and Yahoo! jumped to 250mb. But they never really advertised it much, like I would have expected MSN to do. I guess they are taking a page from GMail's book and trying to generate hype in different ways than ads. |
Yes ! Now I can sleep again !!!

Mine says 2mb...
You have one of the paid accounts? |

still at 2MB, not that I use mine all that much anyway
seriously hotmail is slacking hardcore on this promise -- i have a friend who works there and they *claim* that the're slowly updating everyone (apparently over the course of 10 years....).
Damn, you got my hopes up for a minute. Mine is still at 2Mb also. I wonder what criteria they are using to decide who and when they get updated. I have had my account for 5 years now, and still now update.
Whew. The safety of the western world is once again, secure. ;-)
Still 2MB here. Oh well, Yahoo has been on the ball for many months now. I rarely use my Hotmail account anyway.

I use GMail mostly for webmail. |
I gave up hotmail about 5 years ago...
My hotmail is at 2MB still, but My Girlfriends jumped to 250 just yesterday....
I only use hotmail for junk mail, signups, and people I don't necessarily want knowing my email. Gmail is still better.
I use Hotmail for junk accounts, less time sifting through my regular email. I heard Hotmail is going to start charging to run it through Outlook and Outlook Express... go figure. 2MB here as well, no biggie though since I rarely use it.
Just checked mine, and still 2MB. No bother, I really cut down on the use of hotmail, once I got gmail. Anyways, hotmail sucks because of all the spam. I've had the gmail up for a few months now. Not one spam mail.
Mine just jumped since the time I made my last post in this thread. Now I can get 250MB of spam every day instead of the old fashioned 2.
Hotmail is worthless anyway, I just use it to sign up for things that have a confirmation email requirement. |
Wasn't Gmail offering an entire Gig of storage?
yes gmail is offering a full gig compared to yahoo and hotmail. the difference is gmail is in limited release (invites). However gmail invites in recent months have been distributed much more liberally, I think it signifies that it will be released *soon*. At that time I don't know what hotmail and yahoo are going to do to counteract. They both possibly could raise their limits to 1gb also to compete.
I still don't have it, they must be slow as hell...
Mine also still says 2MB... You should just give them more time.
E-mail accounts are starting to get crazy. I can't imagine being the system admin for a server capable of handling all of that bandwidth.
i hope mine jumps to 250 soon, its still at 2MB and i use ebay alot and every ebay mail relating thing is about 30kb, and if im doing some bidding i get like 15 mails in 1 day... so thats alot of space
i like my 2 gig yahoo acount but it came with my sbc yahoo dsl
i use my 3 gmail accounts as well as my own cs department's email;; no limits here :D
I still wonder why people complain about free email service

What I heard was that they were updating their accounts from the oldest to the newest. You have to realize though that this will be done in stages, to make sure the load-balancing on their servers is working fine and still able to handle the load.
With 250mb worth of space, that can put a bit more pressure on the servers because people aren't as apt to delete mail in their account. And, spread over however many millions of users Hotmail has, the upgrades could really take some time. Up to a year maybe? Google hasn't really had this problem yet because #1, they started with 1gig of email space by default, and knowing google, it was well tested for high loads, #2, being that Google's Gmail has no where near the amount of users Hotmail has, yet. |
I just got the 'holymail' blessing.
Do the file transfers increase in size too? I can't figure out a way to check. |
Hmmm, been a couple days now, i'm still at 2mb.
Good bye Hotmail, you were my first free email partner and we had been together now for more than 7 years- but enough is enough. I remember when you went to work for Microsoft, and then you began to change, slowly but surely the passion died. Other email services appeared and they were so attractive and attentive, because they looked after the ones they were with. Why did you stop caring?? I was there for you every God-damn day! I could see that your interest in our relationship was fading, your pace had slowed dramatically, you took longer to come over (sometimes I couldn't even contact you). I felt so restricted, you gave me limited space to be with you (a measly 2mb of your oh-so precious time!). And you were never able to manage that junkmail problem were you? I had to sacrifice and throw away so much for you. You thought that you had so much else to offer that you forgot what really was important to me.
That is why I often found myself in the loving arms of Yahoo, and now recently, Gmail. Don't give me that look- you've got no one else to blame baby. They showed a willingness to work hard at our new relationship, I got so much more space, and they got rid of that pet peeve of mine- yes darling, junkmail. No more sleepness nights and waking up to countless annoying messages, only personal sweet-nothings whispered into my inbox everyday... I know, we had our share of good times. You were there through some pretty big online moments: multiplayer gaming, the birth of my first web site. Oh yeah- my first ever chat session. But it's time to part ways, and I think you should have seen this coming for a while now. You've always been ambitious and had your sights set on bigger things, so you probably won't even notice my absence. I'll be ok, because you're not the only fish in the sea now. So long and farewell... Could you empty those folders on your way out? |
Darn... mine is msn mail and its at 2mb. I hope it will eventually change to 250mb since its basically the same damn thing.
