P2P help with college blockers

I had been using bitttorent up until I had to take my computer to the shop and when I get it back it seems like the college internet has blocked it. Most of the other programs don't seem to work (Kazaa,Soulseek). I was just wondering if any of you guys have found a way around this? I know that when I changed my port number up 1 number in Ichat it started working but I haven't had luck doing that with bittorent yet. I'm on Mac OS X by the way(but have Virtual PC if needed). Any help would be appreciated.

Was "the shop" at college? You might want to run a spyware sweep just to see if they put something evil in there that's messing with your p2p (paranoid? maybe...)

Then try changing the port to something completely different. Say it was on 3536. Change it to 9120. Or 11832. If that doesn't work, they may have blocked all "non-essential" ports. Try a common port, like FTP.

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling your programs.

i have the same problem... its not software. they block the ports.
can anyone recomend a good bittorrent prog. to get around this?

If your school's network people are any good, they will know you are P2Ping, based on the quantity of data hitting your computer, and nothing you can do can hide that. What's the penalty at your school for P2P? Is it worth the risk?

theres no penalty. that i know of. they use prevention, so any p2p or torrnent wont connect.

setup a intercollege WASTE network http://www.waste.sf.net and change your bittorrent port to something random (use azueras client!) and uhh don't get caught

(btw WASTE is just about 89% safe. they know your sharing data but it's encrypted, so they don't know what your actually transfering.) unless they break the encryption...which would take LOTS of work

thanks. ill try that

when i lived in the dorms they blocked kazaa and programs like that, but souldseek and some of the smaller programs worked, but it sounds like they even block soulseek now.

My school has recently started to block bit torrents too, which is really annoying because of the legitimate uses for it too. Luckily we have a bdcc++ network that is set up to only be accessed from campus dorm networks that they ignore, since it can't be used from the outside and they won't get sued.

i keep getting a NAT error. what is that?
i tryed changing my port to random numbers, to avoid the college blockers. i can dl now but very very slow

(im using Azureus)

That means that you're connecting, but not all the way. Usually that means that there's some sort of blockage to get around. In this case, it's your college. If you can't figure it out, just leave the thing running overnight.

you could also see if your school is listed on www.i2hub.com
if it is you can get on that dc++ hub... its pretty good... limited to college students so theres not too much worry about the riaa or whoever...

and if you want to use dc++ or another dc client instead of theirs set the address to "a.i2hub.com"

Incoming connections to your computer are being blocked. try changing your port, and see if they have you behind nat (you'll have a IP that starts with 192.168, 10, or 172.16-32)
