Winamp BSOD
At random times when I'm using winamp, I get a Blue Screen of Death, it says it's performing a physical memory dump, and reboots. Any solutions? And yes, I'm running winamp 2.91 not winamp 3...

Well your first problem is that you're using a Creative soundcard.
First thing first, just check and make sure you have the latest drivers from Creative's website. Edit: Also, don't switch to Winamp3 as noted above. Winamp3 is a horrible horrible monster. |
The playlist I'm using contains about 1.44 GB of music
not a whole lot but i've seen this on smaller playlists too i'm fairly sure I have the latest drivers, but I'll check. |
winamp 3 was buggy for me too. went back to 2.91 and no problems.

Yes, but this isn't the issue....
I didn't want a winamp 2.91 vs. winamp 3 debate, I already have winamp 2.91 so let's see if we can fix that, please /rant :D |
you have all windows updates I trust?
|
2.91 crashes on me occasionally. I dont know why, but it just kills explorer. But its must faster than Winamp3. I hope you find a solution, cause I would like to see it.

Usually there is a specific error message that goes along with a BSOD. If it goes by too fast, then be sure to change the options in System Settings > Startup Options to not automatically reboot and set it to do a complete memory dump (in case you ever need to analyze the dump :)). Also check the Event Viewer logs, in Administrative tools, for an error in either System or Software that occurred when the BSOD did.

Not helping you here, but what is this 5mb Z: drive? Are the BSOD's completely random? nothing you are doing in the background?
|
ah the z drive's just a FAT partition in case i have to get anything from my Knoppix escapades into windows. BSODs seem to be random, however I've became disenchanted with winamp and have found something just as good if not better:

I really don't blame you for giving up on WinAmp. It's buggy, it's always been buggy. It's a shame it's so popular.
