Problem with a motherboard
The board in question a an Albatron KX400-8XV PRO 2.0.
I recently(this evening) put together a budget PC for my girlie. AMD+2500, 512megs of RAM(Kingston), 40GB Maxtor HD, LiteON DVD burner, cheapo ATI vid card, and the problem I'm having is with Mitsumi Floppy/card reader. Whenever I connect the card reader to the USB header on the board the system crashes... Correct that. Won't even boot up. I unplug it and all is fine. When I say fine I mean the PC runs perfectly. Oddly, I can connect the USB expansion card to the same USB header and it'll work fine, but as soon as I plug in this damn card reader the system will not load. Any help would be appreciated. Just so you know, it works. I pulled the one out of my PC(same floppy card reader in my PC), which I know works, and plugged it into hers and her system still won't boot. My PC boots fine when hers is plugged into my system. |

At the risk of sounding obvious, the connector will only fit onto the header one way?
Assuming that it isn't something this simple, perhaps pushing the connector onto the mainboard is enough to cause part of the MB to ground out against the chassis?

It only fits on one way.
Anyway, I googled around and found that others have the same problem with that board. Guess that's what you get for using cheap parts. Since the PC runs fine I'm just sending the floppy/card reader back and getting the money back. I just put a floppy I had laying around in it. *shrug* |
