Ahhhhh! Why can't news sites make videos work?
I, like a lot of you I'm guessing get my news almost exclusively off the net. Occasionally a news site has a video of a specific story that accompanies the article on their page.
Here is the maddening part! I've yet to see a news site that does this properly! It's like they're all stuck in the mid 90's technology wise when it comes to streaming video! About 1/2 of the sites use Realpl. . . . *buffereing*. . . ayer, while the other half use some sort of Windows media player that doesn't allow a cache. If sites like stupidvideos and consumptionjunction can (without huge corperate funding) stream videos to hundreds of thousands of people, then why can't CBS, Fox News, or any of the other news sites? And what's even worse is that when the streaming does work for over 15 seconds . . . it's usually the 15 seconds of commersials at the start of the video! Hell you can't even pause it to let the cache catch up because there isn't one! I don't expect this thread to get anything accomplished, but I figured that maybe someone else would like to vent about how news sites can't seem to get anything right! |
