Hi there

As the title says, I need viruses, and/or tips on how to find them.

I'm testing some AV programs, and I want to challenge them a bit.
(yes i'm doing this all on a virtual machine, don't worry).

My test OS is XP Pro SP2.

I've made a hotmail account for testing, and am using that with OE.
I am also trying to get OE set up for newsgroups.

Last night I did some 'stupid surfing' and managed to get a crapload of adware, but only a couple viruses, dialers and such for my AV.

So, anyone have any tips/tricks/suggestions? Show me the dark corners of the inet where the virii lurk!

Sign up for various offers for sketchy websites. They will sell your email address and you will get sketchy emails. I have gotten a couple virus emails from my junk Yahoo! account.

http://securityfocus.com/archive/1 - Bugtraq, all kinds of stuff gets posted here, this is a great site to monitor if you have an interest in information security. Be careful though, I have seen code posted that was not what it was advertised as. Also check out vuln-dev and focus-virus for malicious code samples.

Found this on BT yesterday, this involves the GDI/jpeg issue that is currently circulating, we'll probably be seeing a mass mailer virus involving this exploit any day now:

I have temporarily turned off the virus deletion from my mail gateway. After I collect a few I'll let you know and can then forward them to you.

I would tell you to look for the Eicar test virus.

find it here http://www.testvirus.org/
or http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

Any antivirus program should pick these up.

Hit up shifty warez/crack websites - www.crack.ru, if memory serves, is one such.

Most of the downloads have some sort of virus - unless the scene has dramatically cleaned itself up in the past several years.

Yeah, warez sites are a good bet. Just go and download as much as possible. Porn sites are good too.

Download exe files from Kazaa. That's a good way to get worms and irc trojans.
