Help!
I have questions and I am totally illiterate about most things computerese! We are trying to set up a web site for an organization. I have somehow been stuck with doing most of this because the rest of my fellow boardmembers claim they don't even know how to turn the damn computer on without getting three error messages and one blue screen. What is an average price for hosting? - Could someone give me a rough idea of how much space I should get for X dollars? Are some hosts better than others? Thanks!

Man, that really varies quite a bit. If you don't expect a whole lot of traffic you will probably pay $10-$20 per month for 100-200mb of space. There are some deals that give you a whole lot more, but I wouldn't trust any of them without someone here vouching for them first.
If you expect to get a lot of traffic, you will need to get a dedicated server. Price will go up to above $100, not to sure about the amount of space you would get. You could probably search google and find a few sites that rank web hosting companies. Regardless, I suggest you buy your domain name from someone else, like register.com. If you buy from a web host and the decide to switch hosts, it can sometimes be a pain in the ass changing the DNS settings for your domain name (what IP the name points to). |

Even after reading through this site for hours it is still somewhat difficult to tell what the best deal is. My advice is to talk to someone who knows what they are doing. Preferably talk to them in person and pay the guy for his time. You tell what you wan't to do with the site and he tells you exactly what you will need so you can search smarter. |
