Porn.....

So I was thinking, why is it cool for people on this board to crack porn sites and nothing else? Looking at the links board, there are hundreds, if not thousands of passwords ready for use. What is so wrong with cracking other sites? And don't anybody feed me the "because it's illegal" bullshit. It's illegal to crack porn too but people still do it. I want a real reason not a bullshit one just so somebody will hope that I'll shut up and stop asking questions.

Cracking can be lots of fun.

Though I expect that most of the passes here are not cracked by the poster himself.

First, most porn sites aren't likely to go after someone accessing the website with a stolen password - that's a fact of life for porn sites.

Second, you're not stealing people's personal documents or credit card numbers, you're just looking at porn, desperate to bust a nut.

Third, if you're talking about "cracking sites" like people's Hotmail accounts, that kind of thing - those can get you (and Halx) in worlds of legal trouble when busted, and those websites will prosecute.

Pragma, your "reasons" are:
First -- true, but that doesn't make it legal.
Second -- a pure rationalization.
Third -- a continuation of the second.

I agree with Flyguy. It's a double standard, but I think the solution would be to not endorse any sort of cracking, rather than allow cracking of other sites. As Pragma noted, porn sites won't prosecute, which is why attacks on them are overlooked by the mods, but it still endorses illegal activity.

Hm. I'm mostly curious what kind of "other" sites you want to crack. While I agree that cracking porn sites is illegal, cracking Amazon.com and stealing credit cards is very illegal, and the risk is much higher.

Personally, if I were into cracking, I would probably limit myself to just porn sites, only because of the risk factor. The risk of cracking a cheap porn site is slim to none, whereas it's hard to say that for most other sites.

Crazy

Well how about if someone cracked the lateset game, say Doom3, so it worked without the CD?
How come it is OK to post cracked porn passwords but not cracked game patches? Both lose the owners money; you don't pay for the porn site, or you don't pay for the game.

What the hell is the goal here? Are you guys trying to talk the TFP into removing the Links Board, or do you want the installation of a warez board?

Cause if it's the former...STFU

I never said that the links board was "legal" - far from it. That's not going to make it go away, though.

The rationalizations are ones that we do make, though - regardless of whether or not they have any kind of legal standing.

I just don't think that the establishment of a "Warez Board" is a good idea, "just because" we have a Links board. However, my opinion doesn't really matter - I'm just a member. Halx is the one who really has the final say.

I was just curious as to the double standard. Maybe people want to crack a game like Doom 3 like Jake said. I'm not talking about cracking a banks website or nothing like that. That's asking for it and anybody with a brain wouldn't attempt it unless he pretty much has a death wish. I'm talking about, games, getting past your school's firewall, shit like that. I don't want the links board to go away no more than anybody else does. I just want to know why the double standard exists.

It is an interesting point, Flyguy; I've also wondered why the Links Board (and even the Titty Board) are considered acceptable.

There was an earlier discussion regarding posting erotic stories, which segued into pictures; I guess that it extends to the links board.
