need mobo + proc recommendation
I have a computer that was given to me not working. I think either the mobo or processor is bad. I have a shuttle board in it right now with an intel p4 1.6ghz proc. I am thinking that right now its probly cheaper and easier to just buy a new board and processor.
Is there some good combos avilable somewhere? I tried to look at newegg but I couldnt find a page where they just had mobo+proc combos. It was all that free gift crap. :/ sorry, i posted in the wrong forum. please move to the tilted computers forum. thanks. |

What are you looking for in the new motherboard and processor? Do you want another 1.6 GHz P4, or do you want better? What's your pricerange?

for decent performance for a cheap cost, the shuttle Nforce 2 board with like a 2600 shouldn't run you much.

im looking to spend $150 or less for the motherboard and proc.
I just want the most bang for buck at that price range. Onboard lan is not necessary but nice, onboard sound would be a plus but not required. Dont need sata or ide raid. I also have an AMD XP 1800+ on a soyo k7v dragon+ mobo with 2x60gb maxtor drives and onboard sound/lan. I think it only has usb 1.1 though. I dont remember which it has but it has either a radeon 9500 or a gainward geforce 3 ti 200 in it. What I am going to do is turn one of these boxes into a linux box and the other will go to my fiance. She will use it for web browsing, writing documents, misc crap. No games though. The linux box will be a miscellaneous. FTP/HTTP possibly SMTP and NNTP. compiling c running perl. php dev box. cvs server. Just a whole sleuth of misc linux stuff to play around with. any recommendations. |

same as I mention above. I believe both from Newegg should cost you about $145 shipped for a Shuttle Nforce2 board, and a athlon 2600+.
Oh I'm an Intel guy also, and I don't have a problem recomending a AMD to you because it will do exactly what you want.

I have an NF7-S right now. Whats the difference with it compared to the NF7-S2? Also, I have a barton 2500. Im thinking I cou8ld upgrade my CPU to a 2800. If I could upgrade my CPU I would be willing to drop a little more coin. In other words, Ill put the 2500+nf7-s in the messed computer and put the new nf7-s2 and amd ??00 mhz in my main comp.
what u think? Whats the best bang for buck cpu? |
