Question about Auctions

How is it that some people get in bids on auctions at the last second? What software or service are they using to do this?

I got beat on an auction by $10 within the last 2 minutes of the auction...I just don't get it...

Does anyone know anything about this phenomenon? How does it work? How can I do this?

(This is assuming you're talking about online auctions that are similar to eBay.) I would guess that most people simply constantly watch the bidding starting at about 30 minutes before the auction ends. If someone outbids you, simply outbid them at the last second. Of course, it's better not to have a slow connection at these fast-paced bid-offs.
As far as automated programs that do this for you, I haven't a clue.

Insane

You're talking about bid sniping. Google "ebay" and "snipe" or "sniping" and you'll see why you're losing in the last few seconds.

Actually, I am not talking about Ebay...It was a different site, and I am sure someone must be using the same type of technology.

I am wondering though, is there some software that is more of a general purpose one? One that may work on other auction sites to do the same thing?

There is some really nice auction management software out there although I can't recall any names. One of them I tried included a very nice Windows interface and for a modest fee, provided you sniping features using their server. Other software allows you to snipe within the application.

Many apps support multiple auction sites but I'm hard-pressed to find any auction sites with more to choose from than eBay.
