so i have this file i can't delete..
it's called Smash.v64.exe. it's on my desktop and when i try to delete it, it says it's being used by another person or program. i looked to see if i could find anything that resembled it in the startup menu so i could disable it but found nothing. i restarted and did a ctrl+alt+del to find nothing there either. anyone have any ideas or know of a program that can delete any file? thx

aight, i'll try that in a minute
thx |
ok i went into safe mode and tried to delete it.. it said the same thing

Well, shit. I would say create a file that has almost the exact same name like "smash1.v64.exe" in the same folder, but creating an .exe is kinda tough. What you could do is go out and download a small .exe and rename it in the same folder as that file is in, then delete both.

thx bltzkrieg, i should have thought of that. nice thinkin :P it worked. u rule. peace

For future reference, you can usually get rid of a file like that by deleting it from the command prompt.

cntrl-alt-delete
force-quit the program using the file |
I have had this sort of thing before and it is bloody annoying. Anyway I have found a free programme which deletes files when you boot up. I have used it and it works fine. Click on this link and I hope it helps:

It happened to me once, I just went to command prompt, went to the directory where the file was e.g. C:\Windows and typed del "filenamm"

The best way is to go to Ctrl+alt+delete, kill explorer, run cmd, and delete the file. Usually if no programs are running, the program that's "using" the file, is explorer itself, so if you kill explorer, nothing is using the file.
