Nero haning computer, help!
Hello,
It seems whenever I do a disc to disc (sometimes ordinary writing too), more often than not, Nero hangs just after the readin stage. It "forgets" to read and write the actuual data. The only way of opening the drives is to press the reset button (shutdown takes forever when this happens), I loose the blank. I am using Nero 5.5.10.20, WinXP, Hitachi GD-7500 DVD (source) and a Yamaha CRW2200E (dest) and all of the recent versions of Nero I have tried have had the same problem. Has anyone else seen this? I am trashing blanks by the bucket-load. Cheers, Bfoz |

This is a shot in the dark at best. But if you using XP you might want to disable the service for cd burning in windows. I know this sound strange. But it has to do with the built in burning ability of XP and not Nero. This service has been know to hang nero on load up. I do know for sure that it wont hurt your PC to try.
To do this you will need to: Control Panel/Admin tools/services. Look in their, its called :IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service

Disc-to-Disc copying isn't that reliable. Reliable meaning buffers, ram, cpu speed, burner speed, reader speed, all that junk.
what you may want to do is try saving a copy of the disc to your HD, probably as an ISO. Burn from an ISO to the disc and see if that works.

Thanks, I'll try disabling the built in XP burning service and see if that makes a difference.
As for disc to disc, I don't think it's a resource thing (1.3 GHz CPU, 512 RAM, reader and writer both as Masters on seperate IDEs (main drive on RAID)) I have never had buffer underrun and the buffer stays at 100 % all the time when burning. I have mainly noitced the problem when disc to disc uses disc at once mode, I think track at once works, but you get a 2 second gap generally with this mode. I want to do disc to disc at 1x as this audiably give a better soundcing copy. Creating an image first, then buring works fine, but it seems strange that disc to disc wouldn't do seeings as it's not struggling from a resources point of view. Thanks for your comments. BFOZ |
