installing firefox extensions manually?
i tried searching the forum, no relevant results... :-/
i was trying to get some more extensions for firefox (0.93) and for some reason, they won't automatically install. i've had this problem before, but it comes and goes... so i downloaded the extensions i wanted and googled for a way to manually install them in FF, most of the results say to just drag and drop into the extension manager. tried that. didn't work. nothin'. any suggestions? F I R E F O X R O X !

Easy. There are two ways. If you are just installing one extension, you can drag it into an open Firefox window. If you are installing multiple extensions, you can open the Extensions Manager (Tools -> Extensions), and drag them into the EM window.

thanks redlemon...
they didn't work, either method. *but* i did figure out WHY.... i feel dumb about it, but i'm going to post the solution in the interest of science. uh, yeah. i guess it was all just a settings issue. i had disabled the setting about "allow websites to install software" or something like that. so once i reenabled that, both methods allowed it. so anyway, it works again. i'll just have to enable/disable whenever i want to install extensions.

Oh yeah, that. It comes off by default, you can set it to 'on' and leave it on, since it will still give you a warning that you are about to do an install. Later versions (the nightlies) give an alert that lets you know that the setting is off. Version 1.0 PR1 should be out next week, wait until you see the new Find As You Type setting!
