Where can I get jumpers for a hard drive?
Long story short:
I am taking a hard drive out of an old computer and putting it in an external box. Box instructions say I need to set the jumpers so that it is a master (not a slave). Thing is, it was a slave in the old computer (so no jumpers required) and I must have thrown out the old jumpers. Where oh where can I get god damn jumpers??? |
A computer store. Seriously. They have tonnes of them. They may even give them to you for free.
|
I've also noticed that radioshack sells them in a box of 6, but it's close to a dollar for them.

Ah, I should have added this.
I checked with my local Radio Shack - they said they don't have 'em. Ditto for Comp USA. Ditto for Staples. Ditto for Data Vision (a local place with a repair department and lots of parts to buy). Odd, eh? Turns out, someone in our hardware dep't at work had some lying around that he will give me. THanks anyway. |
I have close to 100 spare jumpers. Anytime I trash an old mobo, I pull all of 'em off. If you still wind up needing them, PM me your address and I'll drop a few in an envelope.

Whenever I dissassemble anything, I always keep the screws. I have a lot. |
A lot of mom-and-pop computer stores horde that stuff.. Screws, jumpers, IDE/floppy cables.. The store I used to work for did a lot of builds for businesses who didn't want any of the extra stuff that came with the cases like slot covers, screws, etc. so we got up some pretty hefty collections and would give bags of screws away when asked.
