Start -> Search -> For files or folders... Doesn't work.
Hiya everyone.
This issue has been around for quite some time, and I just not have found a place (forum) where I could ask about a possible solution. Basically, when I go to Start -> Search -> For Files or Folders, I set the search area to my Hard Disk, and then enter a search term. I click "Search Now" and nothing happens. It isn't searching.. and the "search" is over nearly instantaneously. Does anyone know why it isn't searching my hard drive, and if there is a way to resolve this issue? I use SleuthHound to find text documents, but it would be nice if I could search for files as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am 100% clueless as to what is wrong, and how it can be resolved. I am using Windows ME. If you need more system info, just let me know. Thank you. |

ummm....what OS.
Are you positive it isn't working (i.e. search for something you KNOW is there) Are you sure it isn't just searching 'My Documents'? Ans lastly, have you tried right clicking on the actual drive icon in 'My Computer' and select search? Just some ideas.

Do you have the first three boxes checked in the "More advanced options" menu? And what shows up in the "Type of file" drop down menu? Make sure you have it set to All Files and Folders.
Also, make sure you *don't* have other search parameters in place. You or someone else might have accidentally set it to search for files in a specific size range or date of creation, thus gimping the search right there.

Hi guys.
To answer your questions: I am using Windows ME. I have tried entering a term I know exists, and get nothing. I don't have other search parameters in place that I know of, and the file types being searched is "(All Files and Folders)." I click "Search Now" and the search lasts less than 1 second; no results, no indication of search occuring other than a very brief movement of the "magnifying glass." I am stumped, but I really appreciate the suggestions. Is it possible that the "Search program" is broken, and if it is, is there a way to "re-install" it? Thanks again, I appreciate it a lot. |

I get that in Windows XP Pro also, not sure what causes it, but I do a search (which I know exists) and insantly "Search is Complete" with no returns.
