ok, here's the deal.

i had a virus, so i followed the instructions w/ norton and deleted it (or i thought so)

anyway, everytime i start the pc, i see a window w/ message "file c:\windows\system32\system32.exe not found, check the path again...."

that's the file that i deleted to get rid of this.


i wanna know what's making this window come up (that is, what's trying to run the file).

i've checked msconfig and the startup folder, nothing there.

anyway that i can find out what's running this?

EDIT: btw, i run windows xp w/ norton antivirus 2002

You probably got that annoying message after boot. To get rid of it remove system32.exe from Shell value at ....

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Explorer.exe is the only file that should remain there.

I also forgot if you are running WinME or XP, you will have to disable System Restore or the virii will simply come back.

WindowsXP

Disabling the System Restore Utility

1. Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and click on Properties.

2. Click on the System Restore tab.

3. Put a check mark next to 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'.

4. Click the 'OK' button.

5. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes.

AFTER the system is clean, you can use it again.

Note: To re-enable the Restore Utility, follow steps one to five and on step three remove the check mark next to 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'.

that did it.

it had the other file up there (system32.exe)
