Need ethernet advise...
Have a grandson going off to collage this next week....
He needs an ethernet card.....he is running XP on an Emachine T1100. Are these cards generic or does it require a specific one for his puter. Is one better than another??? any help is appreciated..VG |

They are pretty generic. I been installing some cards I buy for $8 in computers that I setup for cable internet.....there isn't really a bad card out there.

Yeah, you pretty much have USB, and PCI ethernet cards. USB are external, PCI are internal. Both pretty much do the same thing.

Is this machine a desktop or a laptop?
Like the others said, its kinda hard to go wrong. Ethernet cards are pretty much commodity hardware--just run to the nearest CompUSA or BestBuy and grab the cheapest one. For a laptop you may want to spend a bit more, but even then, they are cheap.
