I'm going slightly mad!!!

Everytime i try to access my music, documents or pictures a message appears on screen telling me there is an error and i have to send a report to Microsoft.
Any ideas what to do before i go into the garage for a big hammer!

When asking for help... We need as much information as possible to offer our best assistance. We need to know what is wrong with what, and as much general information about your system and anything you may have done to it recently (new hardware, applications, cat spilled coffee on the keyboard, etc...)

OS: What version, have you patched it?
Processor: Intel, AMD, Mhz, overclocked?
Motherboard: what type...
RAM: how much and what type. PC100, PC133, PC2100, PC2700, how many sticks.
HD: size, type, partitioned
Media: floppy, Zip, CDROM, CDR, DVD, etc...
Browser: IE, Mozilla, Opera, what version <-- VERY important for web problems.

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell Microsoft about this problem."
Vague i know but thats about it.

Usually when that happens, there is an option to see more details. Post that, if you would. We are going to need to know more--that is a generic error message that happens any time something bad happens. Without knowing more, we cant help :(

hamski 08-21-2004 04:12 AM

The entire message is:
Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something the information might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about the problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Windows Explorer.
We will treat this report confidentially and anonymously.

I'm wildly guessing this is due to spyware. Try the programs suggested in this thread.

Also, run Windows Update and get the latest patches.

Can you "Click here" and post that please? Also, what exactly are you doing? Are you trying to just call up listings of your files, or does it only appear when ou try to load a word file or run an mp3 etc?

Have you changed anything recently? Have you installed any new programs about the time it broke?
