DVD Firmware Problem
I have an Optorite DDO401 DVD+-R/RW that has upgradeable firmware. I decided to upgrade the firmware last night so I downloaded the .exe file from the manufacturer's website and installed it. Everything seemed to go fine, I didn't get any warnings or messages, once the flash was complete, I restarted my computer as prompted.
Now the drive doesn't work at all. It will open and close and when I put a disc in (any disc) all it does is flash the light a few times and nothing else. It won't spin up or read it. When I click on the drive, it just does nothing (as opposed to prompting you to insert a disc). The device manager says it's working properly, I checked the driver and XP says I have the best driver available installed. This is really pissing me off. To make things worse, I can't find the purchase order and I can't remember where I bought it. Basically, if I can't get it to work, I'm screwed and have to buy another drive. I emailed the tech support about an hour ago but they haven't replied yet. I've also downloaded a 3rd party flash .exe from the rpc1.org forums (a DVD firmware forum) for the drive but I'm afraid to install that. There is also another file on that is for a dead drive that supposedly might fix it but the maker of that said to only use if it is completely dead (tray won't open, lights won't come on, etc). Has anyone ever experienced something similar, either with that model or another? |

I have the same drive. I flashed it with the new firmware a couple weeks ago and it saw my 4X media as 2X. I reflashed back the previous version and it was fine.
Maybe the new firmware is buggy, can you just download the previous version off the site and flash it with that? Overall the drive is kind of dissapointing to me. It works pretty OK, but takes forever to initialize and sometimes the tray won't open after a burn. |
